  A) Orientation phase (2 weeks)

1. Training week

Day 1
We will pick you up from the airport
The volunteer coordinators will introduce you into the volunteer program; inform you about the different activities and the timetable of your program.
You will meet your guest family and your local volunteer partner.
You will receive your information books (for the program, the language and the culture course)
In the evening there will be a Welcome-dinner with your guest family and Program coordinator
Day 2-7
2 hours basic language course and 1 hour Nepali culture course (about the country s culture, traditions, religions, politics and history)

Special Programs during the first week for the afternoon are:

  • sight-seeing tour through Kathmandu (you will visit the most historical and popular places of the city)
  • Nepalese cooking course (You will learn how to cook typical nepali dishes)
  • culture evening (in a folklore restaurant with typical nepali dancing and singing)
  • lecture from a local Doctor about the nepalese health care syste

2. Village home stay week

It is an extraordinary experience to live in a rural Nepalese village for sometime. While staying in a traditional Nepalese house you will get to know more about simple-nepalese lifestyle and the daily activities in a rural area of the Kathmandu valley. There you can enjoy the peaceful village area, the beautiful landscape and the fascinating nature. One or two days are planned for hiking with a guide, as you wish to do. Also you have the opportunity to visit a village school and a local health post.

The last two days of the orientation phase are for your free time, so that you can discover the Kathmandu city by your own.

 

B) Volunteer work (2 to 18 weeks):

The volunteer work program is depending on your working placement, which you have chosen. Your working time will be 8 hours daily, 5 to 6 days a week. After the half-time you have the opportunity to change your working placement, if you also like to get to know more about another working area. Special programs during the volunteer work phase are:

  • 2 days chitwan program (incl. jungle-hiking and visit of an elephant farm)
  • Pick nick day (where you can meet other volunteers and exchange your experiences)
  • 3 days Pokhara (if you stay at least 2 month)
  • Reflection day after half time of your program, with your volunteer coordinator.
