After finishing my undergrad at university I was looking for some experience in but I also wanted to see more of the world. Volunteering at the polyclinic has been an eye opening experience; I got the opportunity to work with some of Nepal's neediest population during health camps, in Baneshwor and Kirtipur. Working as the Mobile Camp Coordinator, I was involved in all the work that goes into organizing and preparing for mobile health clinics, from organizing volunteers, to securing donations of medications. The volunteer program also offers enough freedom that I was also able to use my background in Public health to run health education programs through local schools teaching basic hygiene, food preparation, nutrition, and STI prevention. I defiantly was able to get a better understanding of Nepali culture and tradition working with local people then I could have ever got from just traveling, I was invited into people's homes for Nepali festivals and celebrations, they treated me like one of the family. |
